HUEY-COLHUACAN (National Mexico Folk Ballet Company)
Based in Culiacán—recognized as the first Toltec city—in Sinaloa, Mexico, the Huey-Colhuacan Folk Ballet Company derives its name from the Nahuatl term meaning “Great Culiacán.” Founded in 2010 by Irving Ricardo Gómez Manjarrez, the company is proudly celebrating its 15th anniversary.
Widely regarded as one of Mexico’s foremost champions of cultural preservation, Huey-Colhuacan has spent the past 15 years elevating the art and legacy of traditional folk ballet.
Established with a mission to promote Mexican folk dance, cultivate appreciation for the nation’s cultural diversity, and present authentic, high-quality performances, the company continues to uphold this vision with distinction.
Today, Huey-Colhuacan features more than 30 accomplished dancers and has toured extensively throughout Mexico. It is celebrated not only for its striking costumes, vibrant traditions, and dynamic choreography, but also for its unwavering commitment to honoring Mexico’s rich history, diverse cultural heritage, and 3,000-year-old Mesoamerican roots.
Each performance is grounded in rigorous research and cultural exploration, ensuring that the choreography authentically reflects Mexico’s historical customs—while also embracing its evolving spirit and the promise of its future.
