For Parents & Families

at it's core, Dia de los Muertos is all about family...

Just like Halloween, images and discussions of death and dying can be a challenge for young children who have not been raised in a culture where such discussions are commonplace. What is so wonderful about Dia de los Muertos is that it is not a holiday or celebration that is meant to frighten or scare children. It is a time to celebrate and talk about family - both present and past.

The holiday has its roots in early mesoamerican traditions that are mixed with Christian ideas from Europe during the time of Spanish and Portuguese colonialism. Out of the clashes of the period came a celebration that broke all its regional and historical boundaries to become the fastest growing holiday in the world, today. Grandeza Mexicana and Lore Productions are proud to be the curators of this event for Scottsdale and look forward to many more years of sharing our culture with everyone in the region.
